Change in the direction of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Centre and the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network

Gerard Urrútia y Xavier Bonfill

As of February 1st 2023, after completion of the corresponding internal proceedings, Xavier Bonfill has formally resigned as Director of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Centre (CCIb). He is replaced by Gerard Urrútia, who will now also direct the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, a task in which he will be assisted by two subdirectors, Giordano Pérez-Gaxiola (Cochane Mexico) and Pamela Serón (Cochrane Chile) and an assistant coordinator, Marilina Santero, an Argentinian doctor and predoctoral researcher at the CCIb

Xavier Bonfill has been the director of the CCIb for more than 25 years, during which time he has promoted and coordinated the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network both in Spain and Latin America, reaching dozens of collaboration agreements with numerous academic and scientific institutions and providing training and support to thousands of professionals from across those countries. One of the most important achievements has been the creation and maintenance since 2003 of the Biblioteca Cochrane (the Cochrane Library in Spanish), the only one in the world that publishes all Cochrane systematic reviews in a language other than English and which is consulted every year by millions of people thanks to the agreement signed with the Spanish Ministry of Health.

From Cochrane Iberoamerica we would like to thank the immense task carried out by Xavier and his generous, wise and visionary leadership during all these years. At the same time we wish Gerard many successes in his new responsibility with the support of all the members of the Network.
