Researchers urge caution in prescribing commonly used drug to treat ADHD
Authors of new Cochrane Review remain uncertain about effect of widely used medicine on ADHD symptoms, despite large amount of research. Some evidence of increased sleeplessness and loss of appetite leads researchers to encourage more caution in use of methylphenidate. The Cochrane Library publishes one of the most comprehensive assessments to date on the benefits and harms of a widely prescribed drug used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Doctors and patients making decisions together could reduce the number of antibiotics prescribed for acute respiratory infections
A new Cochrane Review published today shows that when doctors and patients are encouraged to discuss the need for prescribing antibiotics for acute respiratory infections jointly, fewer are prescribed. This may be useful in the fight against antibiotic resistance.

Insufficient evidence for the use of Omega 3 supplements in treating depression
New research out today concludes that there is insufficient evidence for the use of taking an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement in treating major depressive disorder.Omega 3 fatty acids are widely thought to be essential for good health and are naturally found in fatty fish, such as tuna, seafood and some nuts and seeds.

Last tuesday 6th october at 7:30 am was held the meeting of the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network during the Cochrane Colloquium celebrated in Viena from october 3rd to 7th. The meeting had a high attendance where we the main news both international and of the network itself were explained.

A new Director for Evidence Aid
A former Senior Manager of Médecins Sans Frontières, Jeroen Jansen has been appointed as the first Director of Evidence Aid, an international initiative responsible for improving access to research evidence in the form of systematic reviews to improve health outcomes for those affected by global disasters and humanitarian crises.

Acto de presentación del Centro Colaborador Cochrane de la Comunidad de Madrid
The act of presentation of the Cochrane Collaborating Centre of the Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (CCC-CAM) will begin next 22nd October at 2:30 pm. The support of the Instituto Ramón y Cajal remains and will be now complemented by the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, which will replace the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. The event will take place in the Salón de Grados of the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria and will count with many renowned speakers such as Dr Javier Zamora Romero, Dr Carlos Martín Saborio, and Dr Xavier Bonfill.

In Memoriam: Liz Waters
We are so very sad to have to announce the passing of our beloved friend and inspiring colleague, Professor Elizabeth (Liz) Waters. Liz has been unwell for some time but was so passionate about her work that many were unaware of how ill she was. Those of us who worked closely with her feel so fortunate to have been able to experience her warmth, generosity, incredible intellect, and passion for making a difference. She was an inspiring leader who has changed our lives and the lives of all who have worked with her.
